Agitation

The Gurgaon Citizens Council (GCC) and a number of other social organisations have threatened to launch an agitation if the City Administration does not stop indiscriminate demolitions in the 900 meters area around the Ammunition Depot. RS Rathee, President of GCC, while participating in a Mahapanchayat held in Sheetla Colony, criticised the selective demolitions carried out by the Administration recently, and said that this was also done in violation of the Court’s orders. Rathee said that the directions of the Court have primarily been that the Administration has to keep a check on new constructions in the area (and not that old houses have to be demolished). Rathee also alleged that the Administration has not implemented the Court’s further orders, directing the Administration to provide basic amenities like water and power to the residents of the disputed area. Rather, when those residents recently protested peacefully in front of the MCG office, the officials lodged police cases against the protesters - which is quite unfortunate. Further, the formation of a committee, comprising prominent people of the areas as well as the Administration, which was promised by the Deputy Commissioner, is still pending. Rathee said that the Administration is bound to provide compensation to the house owners whose buildings have been demolished. He threatened that unless the government takes urgent steps to deliver justice to the residents of the 900 meters area, the people will continue to protest, and may even start an agitation. A large number of residents of the 900 meters area participated in the Mahapanchayat.
