The residents of M Block, South City 1, motivated by the PM's Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan call, decided to help clean their Block. Their initiative was supported by the Municipal Corporation and Unitech, which provided equipment and manpower support. All the residents - children, young adults and senior citizens - came forward and contributed actively for over four hours. It was a well-planned effort: one team collected the garbage and separated the bio-degradable material, while another team got busy sweeping the roads and the bordering areas. All the garbage was 'assembled' at one place and was disposed of by the appropriate authorities. The residents achieved their target of cleaning the entire M Block - including the residential areas, empty plots, roads and parks. Their long term mission is to maintain M Block’s cleanliness, greenery and environment, by taking responsibility of the locality. Most of the residents have pledged their commitment to this mission, and the concerned government authorities have also promised to co-operate. This initiative exemplifies how citizens can be motivated to effectively participate in a common cause.
