Pathways wins LEED Certification from USGBC (United States Green Building Counci
First LEED-EB Platinum K 12 School in the World
LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) is a ‘green building’ certification program that recognises best-in-class building strategies and practices. To receive LEED certification, building projects must satisfy certain prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. Prerequisites and credits differ for each rating system, and teams choose the best fit for their project. Prashant Jain, Director, Pathways Schools, says, “At Pathways we believe that, apart from imparting good all round education, it is our duty to sensitise children on sustainability. And what better way to do that than making them experience and live a sustainable life. Hence when we were designing the school we laid all possible emphasis on creating a Green Campus with Zero Discharge. Taking a cue from traditional Indian Architecture, wherein old forts and palaces always remained cool in summers and warm in winters, we decided to take up two challenges: first, to find unconventional simple approaches, taking full benefit of natural energies and ensuring the least use of complex technologies; second, to achieve a Green Architecture and yet save 8-10% on project cost (rather than spending more, as is normally expected). We believe that this can, and should be, the game changer in the building of sustainable architecture around the world.
