It is usually said that your home reflects your personality, who you really are. While some people go for the traditional look, others may like their home more modern, contemporary and modular. When you enter a blue room, you know its a boy’s room; and when it’s a pink one, it’s definitely a girl’s. Similarly an artist’s home may look very different from that of a doctor’s. Such desires and wants for something unique and different, to suit personal tastes and likes, has created room for several furniture boutiques and stores. They not only make custom made pieces for you, but also have on shelf some unusual designs.

Chizzle

A fashionable furniture boutique in Galaxy Hotel, it definitely catches your eye, with its stunning pieces of carved wood, and a luxurious lay out. Chizzle opened about 4 years ago and is run by Sheena Khan, an Interior Consultant and Designer, who has been in the business for over 14 years. It specialises in designing customised furniture, as well as provides personalised services like ideas on creative space conceptualisation and their execution. The boutique provides wooden, bespoke furniture pieces, designed by Sheena and handcrafted by her artisans and craftsmen. They ensure that the homes and workplaces of their clients give you a glimpse into their personalities and lifestyles.

Sheena Khan, owner of Chizzle says, “We at ‘Chizzle’ do not believe in mass producing, and provide extremely personalised services to all our clients. Anyone who is a furniture enthusiast, and extremely passionate about his/her home or workplace, and wants each piece of furniture to be exceptional, is the one we’d like to work with. The main aim here is not to think short term or transient gain; on the contrary, I am looking to establish long-term relationships, with my present and future clients – for mutual benefit. And most of the pieces we churn out will not be repeated, which maintains the exclusivity of Chizzle furniture.”

‘Chizzle’s fine products include furniture and furnishings belonging to the traditional and contemporary styles of interior design. In addition to this, the design house also provides services such as design concept development, space planning, design specifications, photo realistic rendering, furnishing selection and procurement, consultation and project supervision. Now, this fine furniture boutiquewould also like to bring out budget furniture pieces – for those who love their designs, ideas and quality – but at a lower cost.

We loved: The beautiful mother of pearl centre table piece

Chantik

This large furniture boutique in South Point mall is quite the one stop shop for all your interior needs. Specialising in elegant wooden furniture from your lounge, dining room to your bed room – this boutique also has beautiful accessories for your home or workplace. Like picture frames, flower vases, cutlery holders, unique table mats, centre show pieces, bottle holders,  fancy candle stands, decorative lights etc.

Started in 2006, Chantik furniture is intricately carved. Its unique ideas are a mesh of tradition and modernity- the perfect designs for present day home makers. And whats great about this store is that the wood is purchased from mills that use environmentally sound harvesting practices. The furniture is fairly affordable too.

Lata Sood, a home maker and a shopper at Chantik says, “I was referred to this boutique by a friend, who had done up her house beautifully two years ago with the furniture she picked from Chantik – so I decided to have a look. And the finish, colour and designs of their furniture is really good. I am quite picky about the finish of my furniture; but the pieces I have seen so far here, live up to my expectations. I have just ordered a few pieces, and am here to look for furniture for the guest room. The best part is that they custom-make and change designs, as per your likes and dislikes.”

But if you are still not satisfied with our finds, and are looking for low budget yet stylish, beautiful furniture, then check out the row of stores selling neatly handcrafted, stunning wicker and cane furniture on MG Road. And for all you environmentally friendly peeps this is just perfect.

Wicker is not derived from the scarce resources of wood. Today there is an extensive choice of eye catching, desirable indoor and outdoor furniture made out of wicker and cane. You can definitely give the wood pieces a miss. On offer are the impressive and utterly comfortable ‘tokri chairs’, that could cuddle up a six feel tall man; the new look jhulas or swings; cave seats, wicker sofa sets; as well as accessories like lamp shades, wall hangings, frames. At half the cost of wood, they have enticed definitely a lot of young buyers. Go ahead and bargain your way – you might just get great deals.

Mirna Singh, architect, says, “The concept of wicker and cane furniture is not only environment friendly, but also refreshing. It helps break through from the regular wooden furniture, and adds some spark to your décor. And with the kind of wicker furniture that is available on MG Road, you don’t have to go too far either. It gives a very young peppy look. If you are hesitant to use it indoors, put it outside. It’s stunning for your garden and the verandah.”
